Development Fund - Norfolk County Golf UnionTwo fund raising days have recently been held to raise money for the Norfolk County player development fund. The fund was originally set up 3 years ago after the DOGS am-am (a Norwich Union golf society) to help players with costs of entering major amateur championships and has now developed into providing some additional coaching. All the funding comes from sources external to the normal County income.
The first day was held on Sept.25th at Costessey Park and organised by the DOGS. The format of the day was Am-Am with a County Player playing with each group. As well as a team competition which was won by Sean Spears, Mike Hardy, Mike Swinnerton & Steve Chick with 89 pts, there was also an individual competition for the County players, the winners prize being sponsored by Jason Black of Plumb Consulting, and this was won by Ian Hardy. As part of the fund raising Steve Mays of Natoli put up a cash reward for the longest drive and an auction was held with green fee vouchers being provided by some ot the golf clubs in Norfolk. The day raised a total of £1700 for the development fund.
The 2nd day was the inaugural County Captains Day, organised by the current County Captain, Kevin Pratt (Costessey Park.) Despite a small entry, the day raised £1100 for the fund, largely due to an auction and a raffle, as well as hole sponsorship and entry fees. Digital Events Chris & Brian were on hand to take pictures of the day and these can be viewed 7 purchased at www.digitalevents.photoreflect.com. The team competition was won by Simon Locke, Graham LayJames Smart & Brian Belshaw with a best 3 from 4 of 125pts. 2nd was Kevin Webb, Andy Green, Jodey Wood & Iain Phillips with 110pts. 3rd place went to Stuart Ballingall, Ross Ballingall, Tim Parsons & John Dempsey with 104 pts. Nearest the pin prizes were won by Andy Green,John Paling, Stuart Ballingall, and Stuart also won the longest drive prize.
