EATON Golf Club secured the Norfolk Scratch Knockout Trophy for a record ninth time – and added to their victory in the Myhill Trophy the previous weekend.
The final stage of the competition was held at Dunston Hall, and the County Union expressed its thanks for their hospitality and excellent course conditions.
The day began with the semi-finals in the morning. King’s Lynn beat Sheringham 4-1 in the first match, with narrow wins for Mason Bernstein, Joe Ellis and Iain Yule, whilst Mark Butt clinched a more convincing 5&4 victory.Â
Â
In the other last-four tie Eaton overcame Hunstanton by the same score with wins for George Morris (1-up), Ian Reid (6&5), Nic Sperrin (3&2) and Michael Skipper (2&1).
This set up an immediate repeat of the Myhill final and, like seven days earlier, there were some great matches.Â
Â
Eaton’s Harry Thomas claimed a comfortable 6&4 win over Joe Ellis, whilst Butt continued his good form winning 4&3 against Skipper.Â
Â
The other games were tighter, with 2&1 wins for King’s Lynn’s Bernstein over Morris and Eaton’s Sperrin over Yule, leaving the match tied two all with just one game reaching the 18th hole.
Â
Eaton’s Reid was 1-up and put his tee shot safely onto the green on the par three, but Lynn’s Paul Holland saw his tee shot find the water.
Â
Holland was unable to hole his third shot, and Reid successfully lagged his birdie attempt for the hole to be conceded, leaving Eaton victorious by a 3-2 score-line.
Â
