Norfolk’s Seniors travelled to Newark Golf Club on 21st August to play a friendly match against Nottinghamshire.

The course was in excellent condition and provided a good venue for a competitive 4ball betterball match.

Norfolk front pair of Alistair Pykett and Ian Hogg battled hard and took their game down the 18th, but lost 1 down. The second pair of Roger Finney and Mark Allen lost to strong Notts pair. Richard Brown and Adrian Myhill put in a solid performance to win 4&3 and with Micheal Horley and Harvey Scott also winning 3&2 the match was level. Despite their best efforts the final pair of Graham Turner and Peter Howard lost the last game meaning a 3 & 2 win for Nottinghamshire

Playing their first County seniors match Mark Williamson with Steve Large birdied the 18th to secure the half point.

In the afternoon singles Northamptonshire started strongly winning the first three games, however at mid afternoon with Norfolk up in the remaining 7 singles matches it looked very positive. However, a late fightback by Northamptonshire in 2 games saw the afternoon halved 5 games all. Norfolk's wins coming from Nick Lyons, David Pattrick, John Tavener, Gary Brayshaw and Alistair Pykett.

The Seniors next outing is at the Bedfordshire GC on 4th July in the South East Foursomes.

County Seniors v Cambridgeshire

Norfolk gain their first league point in 2 years

On a day flagged with weather warnings for heavy rain, Norfolk Seniors hosted neighbours Cambridgeshire at Swaffham Golf Club in the Anglian League.

The morning Foursomes went well Norfolk taking a 3 & 2 lead by lunchtime, David Pattrick with Nick Lyons and Gary Hillier with Ian Hogg both winning. Rob Webb with Richard Oakes and Paul Robson with Micheal Horley both halved, the latter pair winning the last two holes to do so.

Dry clothing adorned the afternoon singles went out in heavy rain, after an early Norfolk win from Richard Oakes, Cambridge convincingly won the next 4 games. However the Norfolk tail wagged and wins for Adrian Myhill, Mark Skipper, and Paul Robson together with a battling half from Ian Hogg were enough for Norfolk to draw the Match and secure their first League point for two seasons.

The Seniors now take on Northamptonshire at Sheringham GC on Monday 17th June.

County Seniors

Match v Suffolk

On 30th May the County Seniors travelled to Rushmere GC to play Suffolk in their first League match of the year. With the sun shining and the greens running smooth and true, the morning foursomes were a tight affair. David Pattrick and John Tavener secured an early half. The back pairs of Adrian Myhill with Mark Skipper and Rob Webb with Roger Finney won 1up and 2 &1 respectively, meaning at lunch the game was all square.

Second out in the afternoon singles Alistair Pykett had an excellent 3 & 2 victory and the ever dependable David Pattrick going out fourth secured another half. Sadly the only other player to taste success in the singles was Rob Webb who played some fine golf to beat the Suffolk Captain 2 & 1.

Despite a disappointing 10 - 5 defeat, most of the games were close fought and the team left in good spirits looking forward to the challenge of Cambridgeshire at Swaffham GC on 10th June

Norfolk Seniors v Norfolk Ladies

Always a great season opener.....

On a fresh sunny day at Gt Yarmouth and Caister the County Seniors played their annual friendly match against the County Ladies. The format was scratch betterball with 4 pairs a side.

The second match was an all Royal Norwich affair with Adrian Myhill and Greig Shepherd playing Jo Hurd and Eve Nield. Eve started strongly with two birdies and an Eagle on the first 3 par fives, but some solid golf from the 6th onwards saw the Seniors fight back and eventually win the 18th for a 1up victory.

Match 3 saw the strong partnership of David Pattrick and John Tavener take on Vanessa Mann and Jess Rutherford, once again they performed excellently winning 5 & 3.

In the last game, having been hit with three birdies in the four previous holes, Alistair Pykett and Graham Turner secured a half with Sammy Martin and Imogen Leeder by winning the 18th hole.
