Featherstone ready for England debut

Through the early months of 2026 Featherstone enjoyed a series of strong results on the US collegiate golf circuit.

On his return to home shores, the Sheringham Golf Club member fought through to the last eight of the Amateur Championship at Royal Liverpool.

He followed that with a superb top-three display in Finland at the European Amateur Championship.

Such strong form caught the eye of the national selectors and Featherstone is ready to make his England debut from August 4-6 in Ireland at Woodbrook Golf Club, County Wicklow.

He will feature as part of a combined men and women’s team competing in a round robin event against Scotland, Wales and the host nation.

Eaton golfer – and Curtis Cup player – Nellie Ong has been named in the England women’s team.

Each match comprises morning foursomes and afternoon singles. As well as targeting a combined trophy, the men compete for the Raymond Trophy and the Miller International Shield is on offer for the leading women’s team.

Featherstone, 20, said: “It’s been a childhood ambition. There’s a scale of things I wanted to achieve and England’s definitely one of them.

“That’s a huge goal I’m glad to tick off – it just puts a smile on your face when you think about it.

“When I got the call, it was awesome – a really cool feeling.”

Featherstone is understandably happy with how his year is unfolding and believes his golf game is now more complete.

The three-time Norfolk Amateur champion said: “Every aspect has improved. My putting is no longer a weakness, my driving and irons are still a real strength I can lean on and we’re working on the wedges and chipping to catch up. And it’s getting there.

“Overall, extremely happy but there’s a lot more to come and there’s a lot I’ve left out there. So, equally excited for the years to come, for sure.”

In mid-August Featherstone is scheduled to head back to America for his third year studying business management at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
